On Friday, August 19, the body of a woman was found next to Interstate 76 in Brighton having been struck by a hit and run driver.
According to the Brighton Police Department, they believe that the woman was walking next to the highway between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. as they received two calls about her. They think that she was in an accident at around 4 a.m. when she drove into a streetlight on the highway’s shoulder and hit an embankment off the right side. She then walked on the eastbound side of the highway and they think she was looking for a ride. She was then hit by a passing vehicle on the westbound side near 136th Avenue by a hit-and-run driver.
She died of her injuries and was identified as Aurora resident, 51 year old Cindy Augustian.
The hit and run driver has not come forward but there is a chance he or she was unaware of the accident.
